ACIA Visits Auburn University’s New Concrete Masonry Design Studio
The Alabama Concrete Industries Association (ACIA) recently spent the day discussing concrete masonry with fourth-year architecture students in Auburn University’s new Concrete Masonry Design Studio.
The afternoon began with an overview of concrete masonry presented by ACIA staff. Rachel Stivers and Eric Consuegra of Goodwyn Mills Cawood then shared important design considerations architects should evaluate when incorporating concrete masonry units into their projects.
The program concluded with a hands-on block-laying demonstration led by C&C Masonry, giving students an opportunity to connect classroom design concepts with real-world construction practices.
A special thank-you to Oldcastle GMS for donating the CMUs and mortar used during the demonstration, and to everyone who helped create such a valuable learning experience for these future architects.
The studio is a joint effort being funding through financial support of the ACIA and Concrete Masonry Check Off.
