Trendlines Statewide Monthly Construction Data-September
Frequent Summer Rains Impact Concrete Yardage in June
Data recently released by the United States Geological Service shows 101,941 tons of cement were shipped to the state during the month of June 2021. Cement shipments contracted by 17.49% over the same period in 2020 and by 4.3% over May’s totals.
Looking to ready mix volumes, we estimate 375,821 cubic yards of concrete were placed during the month. The yardage was approximately 66,000 cubic yards less than June 2020. The total is also the lowest volume in a month since February.
Reviewing residential construction data, builder sentiment for the South in September was 80. This is a 3 point increase over August data, but still 6 points lower than the survey just 4 months ago. The AIA Billing Index for August stands at 55.6. Anything above 50 is considered growing.
