Data recently released by the United States Geological Service shows 126,142 tons of cement were shipped to the state during the month of December 2021. Cement shipments grew by nearly 14% over the same month in 2020 but contracted by 10.5% over the
previous month. For the year, 1,517,616 tons of cement were shipped to the state. Approximately 20% of the cement used was PLC.

Looking to ready mix volumes, we estimate 467,104 cubic yards of concrete were placed during the month. We estimate 5,619,732 cubic yards were supplied in 2021. This is a 13.6 increase over 2020.

Based on anecdotal evidence from members, residential construction remains very strong all across the state. However, 30-year mortage rates are nearing 5% and are bound to begin cooling off the red-hot residential market. Reviewing commercial construction,
the AIA billing index for February 2022 remained at 51. Anything over 50 is consider a growing market.
