August Shipments Spike

Data recently released by the United States Geological Service showed cement shipments grew by 5.5% in August 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. Shipments grew by 16% from July 2024 versus August 2024. Looking to ready mix yardage, we estimate 583.467 cubic yards were placed during the month. The yardage is the highest monthly total since Trendlines was established.

Examining economic data from the University of Alabama’s center for Real Estate, they project new home starts are up 10.6% through September 2024 over the previous 12 months. Every metropolitan area except Decatur, Dothan and Tuscaloosa are outpacing 2023.

The National Association of Home Builder’s Index rose from 47 to 49 in November. The number is the highest score since July. While the number still sits below 50, the report has seen sentiment growth for three consecutive months.
