Trendlines Statewide Monthly Construction Data- June 2021

Data recently released by the United States Geological Service shows 115,686 tons of cement were shipped to the state during the month of March 2021. Cement shipments grew by 7.06% over the same period in 2020 and by 24% over February’s totals.

Looking to ready mix volumes, we estimate 428.385 cubic yards of concrete were placed during the month. The yardage was approximately 30,000 cubic yards greater than March 2020. The total is also the second highest volume for the month in the past eight years.

Reviewing residential construction data, builder sentiment in June fell to its lowest level since August, as construction costs pushed new home prices higher, sidelining buyers and making it harder for some builders to get loans. The National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index dropped 2 points to 81, down from a recent record peak of 90 last November. Anything above 50 is still considered positive.
