2023 Tri-State Summer Meeting held June 28-July 2

The 2023 Tri-State Summer meeting hosted the largest crowd ever and was held
at the beautiful Sandestin Beach Hilton June 28-July 2. It was easily the largest
convention that the Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee Concrete Associations
have ever had, with nearly 400 in attendance.

Registration began Thursday evening and flowed into the cocktail reception.
The gifts for attendees included a much sought-after Stanley Cup, custom t-shirts,
towel clips and koozies. Thursday night’s cocktail party and casino night was a
great start to the long weekend. Despite sweltering temperatures, the weather
Friday and Saturday was sunny and clear. The water Gods were looking out for us
because the Gulf mirrored something you would see in the tropics. It was
crystal clear.

The golf tournament was held Friday morning at the Raven golf course so that
those playing could still enjoy an afternoon on the beach. A corn hole
tournament was held early afternoon, and Frank Conn (Conn-Crete) and Rickey
Swancey (Sika Corporation) took home the trophy. Following the corn hole
tournament was several games of beach volleyball, with a well put-together team
of Emmy Sorrell, Bobby Coffey (Ready Mix USA), Todd Miller (National Cement)
and Tim Garrett (Vulcan Materials) winning it all.

The Saturday morning education sessions featured an NRMCA Ready Mix producer
survey, a presentation on curing of concrete cylinders by Dr. Anton Schindler, and a panel on
technology impacting the industry. The panel included Keith Rickles (Kirkpatrick
Concrete), Michael Hoagland (Command Alkon), Scott Kelley (Heidelberg Materials),
Monty Baveja (Verify) and John Biesak (Cidra Concrete Systems).

Another afternoon on the beach followed the sessions.

As the convention came to a close Saturday evening, a Luau dinner was enjoyed
and musical entertainment was provided by Heath Landers.

A big ‘Thank You’ to all of our sponsors who generously donated to make this
convention so successful.
