Tri-State Summer Convention held July 18-21

The 2024 Tri-State Summer meeting “From the Pour to the Shore” hosted the largest crowd ever and was held at the beautiful Sandestin Beach Hilton July 18-21. It was the largest convention that has been held with the Alabama, Kentucky and Tennessee Concrete Associations, and over 400 people attended.

Registration began Thursday evening and flowed into the cocktail reception.
The gifts for attendees included a neoprene beach bag, custom t-shirts and hats donated by member companies.

Thursday night’s cocktail party and buffet dinner was a great start to the long weekend. Despite some morning thunderstorms throughout the weekend, the Friday and Saturday beach parties were a crowd favorite.

The golf tournament was held Friday morning at the Raven golf course so that
those playing could still enjoy an afternoon on the beach. The golf tournament winners included a team of Evans Duncan (Ready Mix USA), Charlie Vines (Vulcan), Mike Bishop (Vulcan) and Bobby Coffey (Ready Mix USA). A corn hole tournament was held early that afternoon, and Dave Annestedt (Arcosa) and a friend of his were the big winners. Frank Conn (Conn-Crete) and Rickey Swancey (Sika Corporation) took home the 2nd place prize. Following the corn hole tournament were several games of beach volleyball, with a well put-together team of Emmy Sorrell, Bobby Coffey (Ready Mix USA), Todd Miller (National Cement) and Chris Wade (GMS) winning it all.

The Saturday morning education sessions featured great speakers with vast knowledge on the concrete industry. The speakers and topics were “Financial Performance for the Ready Mixed Concrete Industry” (Mr. Pierre Villere, President and Senior Managing Partner for Allen-Villere Partners), “How technology, sustainability, materials, and codes is reshaping our Industry” (Dr. Heather Brown, VP of Quality Control for Irving Materials, Inc.) and
“RocketStart – track, improve and reward positive employee behaviors with an easy to use
app.” (Mike McTaggart and Matt Yeung)

Another afternoon on the beach followed the sessions.

As the convention came to a close Saturday evening, guests enjoyed a sponsored bar, buffet dinner and Casino Night.

A big ‘Thank You’ to all of our sponsors who generously donated to make this
convention so successful.
