Ready Mix Yardage Jumps in January

Data released by the United States Geological Service shows that 131,101 tons of cement was shipped to Alabama facilities in January. The volume represents a 18.4% increase for the month compared to the same period in 2025. January marks the third consecutive month of increased concrete demand. We estimate that 485,467 cubic yards of concrete were placed in the state.

Looking to industry economic reports, the University of Alabama’s Center for Real Estate (ACRE) April 2026 report indicates that projected homebuilding starts are up 10% for the year compared to the first four months of 2025. The AIA Billing Index registered 47.3 in June, a nearly three-point increase from the May report. The South Region continued to outperform the national average, coming in at 49.5 for the month. Meanwhile, the NAHB Builder Sentiment Index recorded a reading of 34 in July, down 3 points from June. Any reading below 50 on the AIA or NAHB indexes signals a potential slowdown in construction activity.
