Trendlines Statewide Monthly Construction Data-April 2026

Ready Mix Yardage Ends 2025 Down 2.2%

Data released by the United States Geological Service shows that yardages increased by 8.3% in November 2025 and 11.5% in December 2025 compared to the same months in 2024. The heightened demand during November and December helped bring 2025’s annual total to within 2.2% of 2024’s level. An estimated 5,988,510 cubic yards were placed for the year, marking the first time since 2022 that annual yardages fell below six million.

Looking to industry economic reports, the University of Alabama’s Center for Real Estate (ACRE) January 2026 report indicates that projected homebuilding starts are 1% below 2025 levels. Nationally, ACRE estimated homebuilding was down 12.5% in January. The AIA Billing Index registered 49.4 in March 2026, a nearly five-point increase from the February report. The South Region continued to outperform the national average, coming in at 50.0 for the month. Meanwhile, the NAHB Builder Sentiment Index recorded a reading of 34 in April, down 4 points from March; the South Region also reported a 34. Any reading below 50 on the AIA or NAHB indexes signals a potential slowdown in construction activity.
