2026 Annual Business Meeting held at Greystone Country Club in Birmingham

The Alabama Concrete Industries Association held its 2026 Annual Business Meeting at Greystone Country Club in Birmingham on Monday, March 30th. The meeting began at 10:30am with presentations of the ACIA Foundation scholarships, the Sam Reed Memorial Scholarship, the 2026 Chairman’s Award, Ronald Davis Memorial Scholarships, Safety Award, Environmental Award, and Driver Lifetime Achievement Award. Following the awards, lunch was served and former Alabama Quarterback and ESPN analyst Greg McElroy was the guest speaker.

ACIA Foundation Scholarships
For the past 31 years, the Alabama Concrete Industries Foundation has awarded scholarships to students enrolled in building science, engineering or architecture at our state’s universities. Since 1993, we have awarded more than 68 scholarships totaling over $316,000. Since 2006, the foundation has given away two $8,000 scholarships annually. The scholarship recipients are both outstanding students. Thirty-two students applied for the scholarships this year, and the decision was once again a difficult one. However, the two winners selected were Grace Vaughan and Kaitlyn Zinn.

Sam Reed Memorial Scholarship
In 2017, the Sam Reed Memorial Scholarship was created to honor and remember Sam Reed, a great leader and past board chairman. Following his untimely death in 2016, the board of directors established the scholarship for students enrolled at Auburn University majoring in building science, architecture or engineering. This year, we received 30 outstanding applications, and the recipient was Zach Gamble.

Ronald Davis Memorial Scholarships
The Ronald Davis Memorial scholarship program was established to assist the children of members who will be continuing their studies at a 2-year or 4-year school or who are currently enrolled at an Alabama college. This year we presented three $3,000 scholarships and one $3,500 scholarship. The recipients were Kate McCain, Brody Woods, Brady Mansfield and Rob Wilson. All of these recipients are outstanding students, and we look forward to seeing what their future holds.

2026 Chairman’s Award- Judd Beech
In 2009, the ACIA created the Chairman’s Award to honor outstanding leaders in the concrete industry. This year’s winner, Judd Beech with MMC, could not have been more deserving of this recognition. Judd has been in the industry for 41 years and credits his relationship and dependance on his Lord and Savior for his success, and for guidance and support in his daily walk both from a personal as well as a professional perspective, His work ethic is unmatched, but more importantly, it’s his integrity, determination, and faith that truly set him apart.

Safety, Environmental & Driver Lifetime Achievement

MMC received the 2026 Safety Award for its commitment to safety which is reflected in their policies and innovation. They maintain a detailed Health and Safety manual, require proper certification for equipment operators, and invest in tools like in-cab camera systems and driving simulators to improve driver awareness and performance. Their safety incentive programs reward employees and drivers for maintaining strong safety records, helping drive measurable improvements in behavior.

Ready Mix USA’s Tuscaloosa plant received the 2026 Environmental Award for its continued commitment to environmental excellence. Operating under ADEM NPDES permit coverage and City of Tuscaloosa standards, the plant has maintained strong compliance with no significant enforcement actions in recent years, supported by routine inspections, internal audits, and a proactive approach to continuous improvement.

James Smith received the 2026 Driver Lifetime Achievement Award and has dedicated his career to one of the most demanding jobs in the industry. James has achieved an exceptional safety record, with no accidents and no returned loads in the past five years. For his dedication, professionalism, and lasting impact on this industry, we were proud to honor him for his 34 years of dedication.
