Trendlines Statewide Monthly Construction Data- June 2025
Alabama Cement Shipments Jump in March
Data recently released by the United States Geological Service showed cement shipments increased by 10.6% in March 2025 compared to the same period in 2024. The tonnage is a 15.6% increase over shipments in February 2025. We estimate 569,314 yards of concrete were placed during the month. The significant increase in March has now moved the state slightly ahead of first quarter totals for 2024.
While the jump in yardage can be viewed as favorable, sentiment among homebuilders in the country continues to slide. The NAHB Housing Index fell from 34 in May 2025 to 32 in June. We have seen a 32% decrease from the high mark in January. The AIA Billing Index had a surprising increase to 47.2 in June from the previous 43.2 in May. The index has only seen growth in 4 of the previous 32 months. The AIA Billing Index for the South region came in at 49.2. A billing index above 50 represents a growing market while a number below 50 represents declining design work.
