Cement Shipments Increase Again in November 2017
Cement shipments to Alabama increased for the fifth consecutive month in November. While it is impossible to predict the exact cause, the pent up demand from a very wet summer and the warm dry winter appears to have increased cement and concrete usage into the winter of 2017. According to USGS reports, 111,828 metric tons were shipped to Alabama facilities during the month of November. The total represents the largest shipment in the previous 4 years. The November total breaks the previous 4 year high from October 2017. The tonnage represents a 21% increase over November 2016.
Ready Mix Production Tops 400,000 Cubic Yards
Ready mix production based on USGS cement shipments remained above 400,000 cubic yards in November. The 414,579 cubic yards is the largest yardage the state has seen since the association began producing Trendlines. Back to back months of strong demand has allowed yardage to grow by almost 3% over the same 11 months in 2016.
