Trendlines Statewide Monthly Construction Data-November 2018

Cement shipment data released today by the USGS show increased demand for the month of August 2018 versus August 2017. The 115,528 tons shipped to the state during August 2018, represents an increase of 13.8% over the same month in 2017. Alabama has seen growth for 14 consecutive months when comparing the cement shipments for the same month of the previous year. The 115,528 tons for August, eclipses the previous high mark of 115,209 set in March 2018. The August 2018 tonnage is the highest tonnage seen in the state since the creation of Trendlines. While cement consumption in Alabama typically remains relatively flat, large industrial projects including the I20/59 bridge replacement and Amazon distribution center in Birmingham are likely contributing to the growth.

Ready Mix Continues in Positive Territory

Comparing the first eight months of 2018 with 2017, Alabama has seen ready mix demand increase by 13.1%.
