Cement shipment data recently released by the United States Geological Service for March 2018 shows tonnage to the state grew at a rapid rate over the same period last year. The growth marks the ninth consecutive month of an increase. The 115,209 tons shipped to the state represents a 12.8% increase compared to March 2017 and a 19% increase over February 2018. The March tonnage is the largest volume for a single month since the development of Trendlines.
Ready Mix Yardage Sees Uptick
Utilizing the cement shipments and the NRMCA conversion factor for ready mix yardage, 426,619 cubic yards of concrete were poured for the month compared to 345,575 yards in March. With several large commercial projects set to begin this fall and a strong housing market, 2019 is on pace to have greater volumes than 2018. After three months of data, volumes are 12.8% ahead of last year.
