Recent data released by the United States Geological Service show cement shipments for the month of June 2018 grew by 19% over the same period in 2017. When comparing June shipments to May shipments, the tonnage increased by 4.3%. While Alabama is experiencing strong summer totals, nearly daily rainfall last year artificially depressed consumption in the state. As a result, the 19% growth for the month should be discounted.
Ready Mix Yardage Continues Strong Growth
When using the NRMCA conversion factor, the cement tonnage translates to 415,066 cubic yards placed for the month of June 2018. Comparing the first six months of 2018 to 2017, yardage has grown by 12.7%.
