Cement Shipments and Ready Mix Production Continue Growth for September

According to the latest data released by the USGS, cement shipments to Alabama for September 2016 rose 8.6% over the same period in 2015. The 97,909 metric tons is an increase of 8,405 tons over September 2015. Year to date, cement shipments to Alabama have increased by 11.2% over the first nine months of 2015. The 843,831 metric tons shipped to the state converts to 3,128,024 cubic yards of concrete placed year to date.

Residential Building Permits Issued in 2016 Stay Positive for Year

Single family building permits issued in Alabama for the first ten months of the year are ahead of 2015 totals by 13.2%. This growth exceeds the southeastern United States growth of 8.6% and the national increase of 8.3%. The Huntsville/Madison market is leading the state with 1,611 permits issued for the year. This number just exceeds the 1,608 permits issued in Birmingham. Fifteen markets are ahead of 2015 totals while 9 markets are lagging for the year. Morgan County is leading the state with a 45% increase over the previous year.
