ACIA Sponsoring Continuing Education Opportunities in February

The Alabama Concrete Industries Association is proud to serve as a sponsor of two valuable educational programs in February. On February 9 – 10, 2017, members are encouraged to attend the 60th Annual Transportation Conference in Montgomery. The two-day event will feature topics on the upcoming CBD Bridge Replacement, designing roads with soil cement, utilizing manufactured sand in concrete, and mass concrete on ALDOT projects. The seminar is widely attended by ALDOT employees, county engineers and contractors.

On February 22, 2017, the ACIA is bringing renowned engineer Larry Novak of the Portland Cement Association to Birmingham to discuss his work on the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa. Larry will be presenting at the joint Structural Engineers Association of Alabama and Birmingham AIA meeting.

Auburn University Transportation Conference
Feb. 9-10

Auburn’s Civil Engineering Department and the Program Committee have designed the Sixtieth Annual Transportation Conference for federal and state highway personnel, road building contractors, general contractors, heavy construction contractors, utility contractors, county engineers, consulting engineers, construction material vendors, researchers, professional society representatives, and University faculty members. It provides an opportunity for these individuals to share innovative advances in transportation planning, engineering design, and construction.

-Approved for up to 8 CEUs.

*Concrete section to include presentations on designing with soil cement, manufactured sand use in concrete, and mass concrete on DOT projects.


SEAoAL & AIA Joint Meeting – Burj Khalifa
Feb. 22nd

Save the date for a joint meeting with AIA Birmingham. Lawrence Novak, lead structural engineer for the tallest building in the world (Burj Khalifa) will present on the structural and sustainable design of the tower.
