ACIA Discusses Concrete with AU Engineering Students

ACIA Discusses Tilt Up Construction with AU-ACI Student Chapter

On Thursday, October 5, 2017, the ACIA presented at the AU-ACI Student Chapter luncheon. The event was attended by 30 students as well as an advisor, Dr. Robert Barnes. Rick Galloway, of Martin Construction was the speaker for the one hour presentation on Tilt Up 101. Martin Construction is a premier concrete contractor in the Southeast and regularly builds tilt up projects in Alabama. The program reviewed basic construction of panels, placement of the sections, and a review of the unique applications where tilt up construction can be used other than warehouse projects. Dr. Barnes commented “The program provided the students with valuable real world knowledge, instead of theoretical concrete concepts we discuss in class.” The ACIA is grateful for the opportunity to speak with future leaders of the design community.
