Cement Shipments see Growth in November

Cement shipments to Alabama for November 2016 as reported by the United States Geological Service continued to show strength when compared to shipments for November 2015. The state experienced a 17.8% growth compared to the same thirty days in 2015. For the first eleven months of 2016, Alabama saw shipments increase by 11.4% compared to the previous year. The metric tons for November 2016 was 88,227 versus 72,472 in November 2015. Using the NRMCA conversion factor, there would have been 327,085 cubic yards of concrete poured in November 2016. This brings the total yardage for the year to an estimated 3,813,506 cubic yards.

Building Permits Issued Stay Strong for December 2016

Alabama ended 2016 with a 12% increase in the number of single permits issued for the year versus 2015. There were 9,644 single family permits issued for the year as reported by the respective homebuilder association chapters in the state. Building permits issued do not necessarily translate to housing starts. The highly respected Alabama Center for Real Estate projected a more modest growth with home starts growing by 3.0% for 2016 over 2015.
